3 Reasons to Improve Your Curb Appeal with Bushes & Shrubs

When selling a Colorado Springs home, your curb appeal can make or break the deal before it's even been started. If you don't believe us, check your reaction next time you see a home for sale that looks like it's been abandoned or belonged to the Munsters! You will generally have formed an opinion about the home before you've even stepped inside it, and unfortunately, that can happen to your home if you don't have the front staged just like the inside. While we've talked about curb appeal before, what we really want to focus on is how bushes and shrubs can improve your space and why.

These small, dense plants can make a huge difference in the appearance of your home, and if you weren't quite convinced before, we hope this will help you see the value in having them strategically placed.

Hide the Unsightly
Every yard will have one aspect to it that isn't the most beautiful, but it is functional, so you have to keep it. Some homes have septic pipes that stick out around the home for cleaning purposes, other homes may have a well, and unsightly air conditioner, or even and foundation that needs to be blocked. You can use shrubs to block anything in the yard that doesn't blend or match the rest of the space, and that can be a huge relief. If you don't know what you would like to include in your space, you can't go wrong with lilac bushes, shrub roses, or hydrangeas!

Direct the Traffic
Bushes can help direct the traffic in your yard. Obviously, pavers and sidewalks can do the same thing, but a bush can really set the walkway apart and keep it looking fresh and organized. They can also look good when you're trying to really identify where a property line is, and where you don't want people or your pets to cross. You can use a small boxwood for lining the sidewalks, or you can incorporate taller boxwoods and other evergreens if you want to create a privacy shield.

Save Space
If you have a small yard, but still want to feel of trees in your yard, it's easily accomplished with bushes and shrubs. While your yard may be small and bushes can get tall, they can also be easily trimmed to the height and width that you would like for your space. If you are wanting to improve the curb appeal of your small yard, you can't go wrong with bushes. They also have a smaller root system than trees, and when kept under control, they won't get tall enough to damage your home.
