How Long Should Your Systems & Appliances Last - Part 1

When you're buying or selling your home, the appliances that are included are often a big concern. As a buyer, you want the appliances to be functional at the very least - if not new and in good working order. As a seller, you want your appliances to be in good condition because the buyer will be concerned about this aspect of your home. The MacGuire team realizes how important it is to make sure your home is ready to hit the market, so we have a quick and easy set of guidelines to assist you through your home appliances.

Furnace
This is a large appliance in your home, and buyers will be concerned with. The average lifespan of your furnace is between 15-20 years, and the average cost to replace it is about $3,880.

Air Conditioner
If you want to watch your potential buyers get scared and leave - show them a very old air conditioner. Your air conditioner only needs to be replaced every 10-15 years, but the average cost to replace it is $5,210. If your unit is getting older, you may want to consider replacing it when you are ready to sell your home.

Toilet
You can expect your toilet to last at least 10 years, but you shouldn't need to replace this feature of your bathroom unless it's cracked or malfunctioning - or VERY outdated.

Water Heater
It's important to make sure that this appliance is not only in good working order, but also upgraded when you sell a Colorado Springs home. You can expect that a water heater will last 10-15 years, and only costs $886 on average to replace.

Pipes
The good news is that your pipes should last, on average, 75-100 years. The better news is that the replacement is only $1,193 on average.

Shower
Your shower should last around 20 years, and the only reason you should need to replace it is if it's broken, or very outdated. Unfortunately, buyers will judge the space by an outdated shower, fortunately, they only cost about $857 to replace.

Dishwasher
Your dishwasher can last up to 9 years, and is, on average, $568 to replace. If your unit doesn't need to be replaced when you sell your home, at least make sure that it has been cleaned thoroughly

Garbage Disposal
While buyers will probably not walk through your home and turn on the garbage disposal, they could. If yours makes unusual sounds when it starts up, the average cost to replace it is $400, and it will generally last about twelve years.

Selling a Colorado Springs Home
From buying, selling, or continuing to live in your home - this information can be vital. As a buyer, you'll want to know when items should have been replaced so you can know when you'll need to replace them in the future. As a seller, you'll want to replace these items before you sell if they are beginning to show wear and tear. If you're a homeowner who has no plans to buy or sell - you can use this information to help you plan your home upgrade budget. The MacGuire Team knows how valuable it can be to get insight into the home buying and selling process, and that's why we're here to provide it.
